I am suddenly getting this message:
Script Error
Cannot connect to MySQL: Access denied for user 'havis_jgkruse'@'localhost' (using password: YES).

Everything was working fine and I never changed anything.

Yesterday I put in an order for another company to install a PHP script that uses MySQL DB. Its for another domain though but it is a domain on the same hosting company.

I set up a seperate DB that had the same username. Could that have caused this? I cant see how, because it is for a different domain and has a different DataBase with a different name (just the same username ... but different password).

The first thing I did was to delete the new database to see if that was the cause (becasue the install request hasn't even gone through yet with the other company.)

How do I fix this? How do i "double check MySQL connection settings?

I'm trying to get a New Multivariate Experiment in Google Web Optimizer to work on a squeeze page within amember (public_html/amember/templates/index.html)). The page contents are complete, the

"1. Test Page: Add Control Script, Tracking Script, and Identify Your Page Sections" is complete, including page sections etc.

and

"2. Conversion page: Add Conversion Script" is added to thanks.html in amember's templates.

..and Validating JavaScript Tags says,

"Congratulations!
All your pages have been validated and you are ready to continue and define variations."

And further says, "All of your pages have been validated. You may continue and define variations."

...but when i click Continue Google says,

"Warning: We've detected more than one occurrence of a given section name. This usually means that you have copied the script above without changing the section name. Please go back to your page and make each section name unique."

This is NOT correct. There is only one occurance of each section. And each is named uniquely. I've deleted the New Multivariate Experiment and removed the google optimizer code from the pages and started over from scratch with new code and new tests several times over past three days.

Each time I get the above error.

And when I 'continue anyways', none of the test work in preview mode. Only the default entries show.

So I'm guessing there's some code or setting conflict somewhere.

Any ideas where to begin to fix this error?

Thanks.

Andre
PS: Oh. I even took the header.html contents and manually added it to every template that called for header.html... then edited index.html and thanks.html so their headers would be unique from all other html pages served by amember. Did same with footer. Still no joy :(

PPS: I already also tried testing google validation with and without Google Analytics Account ID filled into amember advance window. The google error is the same either way :(

Oh. to be sure the code is fine I did enter my google web optimizer code into blank text files and they validated fine. But entering the same code into signup.html or index.html Google generates the error listed above. Something is amiss but i can't find it. hope you've already seen how to fix this.

thanks in advance

Upgrading PHP on Server - Want to Avoid Screw-Up!

WordPress issued a bulletin indicating that they will no longer be supporting MySQL v. 4.x or PHP v. 4.x. The the new minimum server requirements are MySQL v. 5.0.15 and PHP v. 5.2.

A link to WordPress.org’s bulletin is here: WordPress Bulletin

I checked the cPanel on my server to verify whether it was running versions of MySQL and PHP that complied with the new minimum requirements. The MySQL version is adequate, but the PHP version was reported to be v. 4.4.9, which will not be supported in the next release of Word Press.

I contacted my hosting company about upgrade the PHP and they tell me they can upgrade my server to v. 5.2, but that there will be some downtime for the site while they recompile Apache with the new version of PHP.

I can handle the downtime. What I do not want to do is screw up my aMember installation. I moved servers a couple months ago and aMember was down for days. It was horrendous. I don't want to repeat that one, so here I am asking...

What, if anything, do I need to be concerned about when the hosting company does the upgrade and recompile? What, if anything, do I want to do before they start the upgrade process that will save me headache and heartache?

Maybe it will all be good and I need not worry, but thought I would ask.

Any information or insight is appreciated!

I do not currently use aMember. From the online doc, I gather that all of the protection methods, strangely, require an .htaccess file in every protected folder.

I have always used the more secure technique of putting the necessary directives into xxx.conf apache configuration files, in a folder that is accessible only to a particular user group, completely separate from the protected content. I don't see the point of requiring these files to be distributed all over the place and stored together with the protected content. I presume this design choice also (unnecessarily) complicates the scripting that manages the files. Wouldn't it be simpler from a scripting standpoint to have all of these files centralized in one folder?

Before making a purchase decision, how difficult will it be for me to customize the script(s) to use centralized, as opposed to distributed, .htaccess logic?

The only justification I can see for using .htaccess files mixed with the content is if you are not the system administrator, and are limited to a subdirectory tree.

I have been using aMember for a while now. I have also used many other membership systems. I know it isn't for everyone, and these are just suggestions imo on what I would personally like to see amember do.

Is there a suggestion area in this forum? I think amember would be made 10x as powerful if the users could help make aMember better. After all, we use it for our businesses, so you are hearing the requests straight from the horses mouth..

1) While aMember has affiliate tracking on a per user bases (the user can go in and see their referrers, ect.) I feel they should be able to see who they referred in and whether or not that user is active or expired. Maybe a setting in the admin area to enable/disable this ability. When you make an affiliate site, in some situations being able to view their "downline" or "referrals" is needed. Also some more detail to the admin's ability to look at affiliate information. If I have an affiliate "Joe" and I want to see who he brought in and how many, right now I think the only way is to click on every user in my system and look at the bottom and see if they were referred in... that sucks when you have 100s of members...

2) Support for iContact. I think you have or at least tried to setup integration for Aweber... but Aweber sucks. They are so sticky on rules and scared of spam that you can't even work with them. A lot of big businesses use iContact and imo it is 100x better. I would imagine that they would be easy to integrate into amember. Right now I have to export all my members and import them manually. Integration would be nice.

While I can program in php, I just don't have the time to make these changes myself or they would already be done.

My membership site has been setup for a few months now, everything great.

I did notice however (when browsing through the log files) that even expired users are able to login to my wordpress area and access all the information. This is a huge deal. Those who have expired and realize they can still login to the wordpress and get the content without paying, they will never pay again lol.
So I am forced to hunt down all expired memebers. The only option I have is to delete them from amember, then update the database to remove them from WP as well. However this is a problem itself because then they lose their account in the event that they would have logged in and updated their subscription....

I have noticed there are WP roles and levels. Obviously their role will never be higher than a subscriber. However there are 10 levels to wordpress. Right now by default in amember this level dropdown is empty.

I tried to set the level in amember to 1, then down to 0 if they expire. Then in my wordpress content used [ hidepost = 1 ]. Upon testing, even active members couldn't get to the content..

What is the best way to do this? Maybe a better hide content plugin for wordpress?

David, I know you do a lot with amember -> wordpress membership sites

I know this has been discussed before but all of the related posts I had found were quite old.

I had been using another Helpdesk with an integration plugin in the past but it had one major problem - the user changed password in the helpdesk and then they had 2 different passwords as it was not propagated to aMember. This was the smaller problem and can be disabled at the helpdesk side though.

But what happened more frequently was that the user changed their password in aMember and this change was not propagated to the helpdesk so the login at helpdesk did not work.

The only solution was to rebuild the DB from within the aMembr admin panel but that is A) Extremely inconvenient, B) Not real-time and C) Began to fail badly once the userbase has grown.

So my question is, does the Kayako plugin have the same problems? And if it does, was anyone able to resolve them?

Thanks!

                                $db->log_error("paypal_r DEBUG: CANCEL COUNT UPDATE!  $msg");
                                $db->update_user($u['member_id'], $u);

The log_error spew works correctly and does provide "1" as the cancel_count. So, it seems as though $u['data']['cancel_count'] is storing properly at this point. ALSO, it *is* updating the 'country' field in the database to "test" ...so, I know that this routine as a whole is doing something.

However, there is nothing being written to the database for "cancel_count" in the 'data' field. It's as though $db->update_user isn't updating the data field at all.

Am I missing something here or doing something wrong?

Some users get this error message when they follow the activation link sent to them in the automated email:

I can't seem to reproduce it myself when I create a test account, yet when I try to log in with the problem account and resend the activation email, the problem persists.

Strangely enough, the error suggests that the code is invalid, but the email_verified field in the amember_members table is decremented for the appropriate user, so that some of my users are at -3 and -4 for email verified, because they have tried repeatedly to activate their account.

What is the problem?
